What is M.T.O. Sufi Psychology®?

M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi, School of Islamic Sufism®, has developed a sophisticated psychology during the 1400 years of its existence. This psychology focuses on the original and true meaning of the term “psychology”, for “psyche” originally meant soul, and M.T.O. Sufi Psychology® is the Science of the Soul.

Sufi Psychology has been described as the alchemy of consciousness. It is the living human experience of transmutation of base metal into shining gold. As the medieval alchemist patiently worked to transform the base metals, utilizing sulfur and mercury, so the modern Sufi teacher, called the Pir, patiently, slowly and gradually transforms the student, turning the baseness of thoughts, emotions, physical desires and selfish motivations into the shining goal of spiritual enlightenment.

The medieval alchemist never showed his work until it was completed, and the pure gold was visible. In M.T.O. Sufi Psychology®, the slow and gradual positive change occurring is obvious both to the participant and to observers. It is called The Way of Love.

Each human being is like a mine, gold, silver or jewel;
excavate the goodness within them, so that you may have peace.

What is M.T.O. Sufi Psychotherapy®?

M.T.O. Sufi Psychotherapy® utilizes the Sufi methods of training taught by Molana Hazrat Salaheddin Ali Nader Angha, master of M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi, School of Islamic Sufism®. He teaches the way to self-knowledge and cognition through an inner journey of self-discipline, purification, concentration and Tamarkoz®, as well as through prayer. Tamarkoz® differs markedly from what Westerners call meditation, for it utilizes methods which align, balance, and activate the energy fields of the body, allowing connection with the fundamental unity of Existence. This journey transforms and deepens one’s level of awareness until one moves from egocentric consciousness to awareness of the soul and spirit, to oneness with the reality of Existence.

Hazrat Pir was once asked: “What do I have to do in order to change?”
He replied: “Nothing. All you have to do is not do what you are doing.”

What is the Sufi Psychology Association?

The Sufi Psychology Association is an organization run entirely by volunteers. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 organization with no paid staff. Incorporated in 1997 by a small group of M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® students who presented a small conference in Sacramento, California, it has expanded activities to include at least three conferences a year in different cities, a semi-annual journal, this website, and sponsorship of Tamarkoz classes, workshops, and retreats.

The basic purpose of the Sufi Psychology Association is educational. We wish to share the expansive body of developmental knowledge and techniques taught by Hazrat Salaheddin Ali Nader Angha, Pir Oveyssi, so that all who sincerely seek knowledge may become loving, creative, fully-functioning human beings who are at peace with themselves and with Existence.

Each human being is born with different characteristics and abundant aptitudes.
